TV on the Radio - Wolf like me
The image of the band would be 4 or 5 males (the real band are black but f don't see that as thei style with the sound) with an indie rockan d roll look.
My attraction to the band was their way of using abstract musical instruments and making them sound current and interesting.
I like how in first videos most organic bands, which is what i would promote this band strongly being, do videos that really introduce the band to their new fans, so the video would be dgvery much focused on the performance element with stylistic shots used to make it more interesting.
The song starts of a bit quiter where there could be a few close up as the beat begins. Then there would be lots of different shots of the band close up individual and wide.
The idea for my stylistic shots was to turn into show motion and have it in black and white possibly (they would be in a fairly dark location already, just a normal sort of empty set), then to have bright coloured paints dripping out and down the instruments. So for the guitar it could be dripping down the strings then dripping to the floor. On the drums it would be splattering as he hit them, which would make very effective shots in slow motion.
I thought not to have a narrative as it more about introducing the new band and so focusing on them and their performance.
The feedback from this idea was that it has "good visual idea but has been done quite a bit in the past". So if i were to do the idea i would need to think more about a way to make it more unique from the ones previously done.
Israelites - Desmond Dekker
I'm a fan of Ska music as their such happy fun songs to listen too so I was defiantly keen to do a video on one. I think that Ska is all about freedome, having soul and spirit and getting over struggles, so its a really motivating genre of music.
The thoughts i had for this song was to make it really fun and Jamacian as thats where it orriginated from, so the location would be in a really colourful room, with lots of wakey objects and knitted style furniture, with a really rastafarian feel to the place.
this image is too modern but the style of bright colours and homemade type objects around. there would be a group of quite old men around the room and as the music begins to play they would begin to dance as if their bodies are out of their control, then later on in the song you would slowly zoom out to see that they are all puppets on strings in a small box, adding a twist to the story. to give it another twist at the end of the song the men could break free from their strings and walk out onto a streat.
the freedback from this idea was "sounds cool, but very well known song". that is not a massive worry as its not precisly linked to the song so i could just chose another similar one and use the same concept.
Pogo - Digitalism
This song is still in the indie/alternative genre but a lot more modern style with the more computerised sounds. i thought about using the light computer sounds linked with lights, turning the camera onto a slow shutter speadso they begin to blur around and mix together, so the video would be like a light show changing on the beat. the band would be incorporated with this by having fun running round in the neon lights and waving them around. the editing (cutting) would get faster with the pace of the song. the aim of the video would be sort of a fun wild one you would watch when getting ready to go out getting you in the party mood.
the feedback from this song was just that it needs more thought, i enjoyed the ideas for the other videos more so i did probably put more thought and detail into them, but i do think this idea could be a fun video.
