Sets

Now we have casted Emma as our leading girl we next needed to finalise ideas for the set so that we could begin writing a timeline.
The first set idea we all agreed on was to have a sort of make-up / backstage room, the inspiration i got for this location was from my parents bedroom

This sort of all creamy white colours with very elegant womanly objects decorating, everyone else liked these photos and we started thinking about actually using this room, but then when we began developing the other locations we decided it would be best to do them all in the studio and give them an obvious set look.

The next set idea is a simple classy photo shoot setting like this so it's very obvious she's on set and we would see her walking on with all the equipment on workers moving around.











A final setting we would like to incorporate is a cafe/bar type of location, but also having it obvious that it's just a set. Here is an image from the cafe in the advert:

Casting

The three girls we thought of as possibilities agreed to do some screen testing so we played them the music and got them to dance around to it, we gave them a chair and a jacket as props individually.
We did this in our enigma time and it all went very well accept for an issue with the music, someone thought someone else had the music but they didn't and then the video went down on youtube for some reason so that waisted 5/10 minutes but we managed to record it on Sarah's phone and play it from that, that made us realise we need to be more organised next time.
















As people said how they wanted to improve filming skills we all took it in turns to do the different jobs: camera man, sound, director and photographer. This worked well for everyone.

We filmed Emma first so we used her as our guinea pig for the behind a blanket shot, heres a shot clip of the footage we shot:


Layla is confident in using Final Cut Pro so volunteered to edit together all the footage we got of the three girls, she did a very good job, here is the video:


After reviewing all the girls as a group we all thought Emma suited the character of the girl the best, she is pretty with a good figure and long hair. Emma was also the most confident and understood what we were asking for the best, the way she moved around the space with and without the props cheekily and in a girly manner is just what we were looking for. 

Song searching

The first thing they needed to do after the feedback was to find the song. To start the search they typed into google 

there was issues with the songs not sounding modern enough so didn't quite fit with the concept, so they went back to the initial inspiration from the Dior advert and listened to songs from the same artist. 

Another song they looked at was Brigitte Bardot - Moi je joue

This song is defiantly what they were looking for in sound, beat and genre but it's to well known. So with me agreeing a song was chosen, one from the same artist that did the Dior advert Stereo Total - Anti Love Song

It fits with the 60s French pop style, and has a slightly more flirty feel to it which we could play on more.

Now the song has been chosen we wanted to get casting quickly before the other groups so we had first choice on the girl we wanted as their is limited choice at our college. The girl needs to be really confident so she won't make it look awkward or bad when we ask her to dance around or be silly, and with a sexy/girly style preferably with long hair.

feedback from the treatment

During a lesson, their group before i joined, presented the treatment to our class.  This was useful as the class being teenage and female we all fit the target audience perfectly.  This is the feedback was:

1. Animation is good, simple and effective but needs to link to the song
2. The target audience (girls) is a good idea as it is quite easy to do ---> will be able to make a great promotional package that is girly and fun
3. Using silhouettes is a visually interesting idea
4. Liked the colour scheme:  baby pinks/whites/neutral colours as it works with the image that is girly, dainty and cute
5. Make sure there's a narrative that is carefree and not complex
6. The song should be sunny and cheerful ---> I actually suggest the artist Ingred Michaelson
7. Use different locations to make it more interesting to watch
8. Glamorous
9. Could be a good idea to actually acknowledge the set in the music video:  could see the singer getting her makeup done, etc

From this feedback they decided to change it so the audience can see she is on a film set.  They want to show the fact that she is in a studio, getting her makeup done beforehand, etc as the stylistic/lip-sync aspect of the song.  They felt this will be more effective as it would be more fun and interesting rather than trying to pretend to the audience that the model is on a beach/in a bedroom as it wouldn't be very realistic.

Change of plans

I had a chat with Phil today as there was a few issues with different opinions on music video ideas, so i have now changed provisionally to Layla, Mina and Sarah's group.

I heard their ideas last week and really liked their main one, here the powerpoint:

This is a fairly new idea i only just thought through with one other memeber of my group as when were found out there was a chance we could work with a realy artist we were bother very excited and interested at the prospect.
the feedback from when i presented it to the class and Luke was very positive about the stylistic shots, just one question on how with the two ideas link together?
We were recomended to watch a previous video from Hurtwood as they used a similar idea with falling feathers. It was helpful to see but i do feel we could do a slightly better job, and it would be much more effective in slow motion.

Another issue to think more about is how there is no performance element, we discussed it a bit and agreed that there shouldnt be a band performance element and just a lip sync.

There is also an issue that that song may not be the one she will do, so i have listened to her other songs and feel we could use the same concepts on another one as they are similar style songs.

We also changed and decided on no narrative which is good as i already didnt want to do want, it would be much better and interesting to just focus on the stylistic elements and then we should be able to do them better as we dont have to worry abou thte narrative.
